Littlebrook Power Station plays a starring role in new movie
Littlebrook Power Station has once again provided a backdrop for a major Hollywood movie produced by Warner Bros. Studios.
Jupiter Ascending is a new Hollywood blockbuster starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. The industrial setting at Littlebrook Power Station proved the ideal backdrop for a futuristic scene near the end of the movie.
The film is centered on character Jupiter Jones (Kunis), a down-on-her-luck cleaning woman, and Caine Wise (Tatum), an interplanetary warrior who informs Jones that her destiny extends beyond Earth!
The Warner Brothers film crew were at site from 30 May to 1 July last year. The filming took place over a couple of days, although the set building and removal of equipment took almost four weeks!
More than 40 people were on site to build the elaborate set and this increased to 80 people on the filming days. Filming took place on the redundant Unit 3 part of the station. The turbine condensers in the basement and the boiler burner firing floor were the main areas used for filming. However, lighting rigs and winch equipment were set up on many other levels of the plant.
The film crew were self-sufficient providing power from generators and bringing their own catering and crew welfare blocks. The film crew took over the station’s outside car park by the gatehouse and used this as their base location.
Mike Lane engineering and maintenance coordinator, who managed the film crew on site added,” It is always amazing to see how much it takes to film a few minutes of television or seconds of a movie. It was very exciting to have the crew on site and amazing to see what they can turn an oil fired power station into.”
