Tenth explosive demolition at Tilbury Power Station

At approximately 9am on the 16th March 2018, the tenth explosive demolition event will take place at Tilbury Power Station. The controlled demolition will simultaneously bring down bunkers 9 & 10 with the associated conveyor transfer tower.

The bunker structures are predominantly constructed of steel and are approximately 60m high x 100m long x 20m wide. The conveyor transfer tower is attached to the bunkers and is approximately 12m high x 25m long x 12m wide.

To protect everyone on site and in the local area an exclusion zone will be in place before, during and immediately after the explosion. The exclusion zone is well within the power station boundary fence and there will be no public access to the area or impact on the local road network.

Demolition of this section of the power station is considered to be low impact. Although the explosion and collapse may be heard off site, any noise will be over very quickly.

The other main structures, including the boiler houses, are scheduled for explosive demolition through 2018 and into 2019. The complete demolition of the site is expected in 2019.
